Hispi Cabbage Noisette
Sometimes the simplest side dishes are the ones that steal the show. This buttery Hispi Cabbage Noisette is proof that just a handful of ingredients can create something truly delicious. As part of our Perfect Pairings series, we love serving this alongside our comforting Classic Lasagne.
Whether you're looking to elevate a weeknight dinner or add a simple vegetable side to your table, this recipe comes together in under 20 minutes and is guaranteed to become a favourite.
Ingredients
- 1 large Hispi cabbage
- 75g butter
- Finely grated zest and juice of ½ lemon
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Method
1. Prepare the cabbage
Remove any outer leaves that are wilted or damaged and discard. Cut the cabbage lengthways through the root into six equal wedges.
2. Blanch
Bring a large saucepan of salted water to the boil. Carefully add the cabbage wedges and cook for around 3 minutes, until just tender. Using a slotted spoon, lift out and drain well.
3. Caramelise
Melt half of the butter in a large frying pan over a high heat. Once foaming, add the cabbage wedges and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until beautifully golden and caramelised.
5. Finish and serve
Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and salt over the cabbage, season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper, then serve immediately.
This simple side works brilliantly with rich, comforting dishes. We love pairing it with our Classic Lasagne, where the sweet, buttery cabbage and bright lemon cut through the richness perfectly.
Simple, comforting and packed with flavour, this is the kind of side dish you'll come back to again and again.
