FOOD

Is Ruby doing the cooking?
She really is! Ruby is a Leith’s-trained chef with a background in restaurants – and now she’s filling freezers of Britain with exceptional, nutritious dishes. She does all the cooking from her own kitchen in west London.

Do you make vegan-friendly food?
Absolutely! Check out our vegan dishes here.

Do you cook gluten-free dishes?
We do! Head this way to see what’s cooking.

Do you use preservatives in your dishes?
Never! We believe in using ingredients you’d have in your own kitchen, so you’ll recognise every ingredient in our dishes. Though we’d never need to add any dodgy preservatives anyway, as the freezer preserves our food the natural way.

Can your dishes be microwaved from frozen?
All our meals can be cooked in the oven, and most of them can be cooked in the microwave. That said, our pies don’t work well in the microwave – they need to be oven-cooked, to get their crispy crust. Just follow the instructions on the outer packaging to achieve the best results.

I don’t have a microwave! What should I do?
All our meals can be cooked in the oven, from frozen, in less than 45 minutes. Just follow the instructions on the outer packaging.

How long will each dish last in my freezer?
All our dishes last over three months in the freezer, giving you extra flexibility and reducing any unnecessary food waste.

Do you use free-range chicken?
Yes. And we always will!

Who do you source your meat from?
We get all our free-range chicken and grass-fed from Ashby’s – a family-run business established back in 1950, and one of London's finest suppliers of meat. We only source meat from RSPCA-accredited farms.

Who do you source your fish from?
Southbank Fresh Fish is London's leading supplier of sustainable fish. Their seafood is RSPCA assured and it’s certified sustainable by MSC.org. In fact, this pioneering company has created something called the 'Southbank sustainability initiative' or ‘SS’, which works with local food producers to help them create and craft truly sustainable menus. We love their Scottish Loch Duart salmon – which is why we use it in our Fish Pie and Salmon with Lentils!

Who do you source your veg from?
Nature’s Choice are purveyors of the finest fruits and vegetables – and they’re based in New Covent Garden Market, London, so they’re nice and local too.

DELIVERY

Is delivery free?

Delivery is free on orders of £50 or over. Unfortunately, we can’t cover the delivery cost for orders that come to less than that. Standard delivery is £7.35 for orders of under £50.

What if I’m not home when you deliver?

All our boxes are fully insulated, so they’ll keep your food frozen until you’re home. We can leave your byRuby box in a safe place or with a neighbour if you’re out.

Can I recycle your packaging?
You can! Our wool-lined boxes are sustainable, recyclable, compostable and biodegradable.

What is the wool liner for?

We use Puffin Packaging’s 100% sheep's wool packaging, which keeps produce within the temperature ranges required by the Food Standard Agency (FSA). We use it to package up our frozen meals, as it’s the most efficient, sustainable option out there. In fact, it’s 100% biodegradable and compostable.

Can I reuse my wool liner?
Yes! We have lots of ideas for you. You could use the wool sheet to keep drinks cold on the beach, or to keep a fresh loaf of bread warm. It’s pretty versatile. Otherwise, you could pop the plastic outer layer in with your plastic recycling, and use the inner wool liner to stuff cushions, make homemade draught excluders or enrich your soil and keep the roses happy!

How do I recycle my Puffin Packaging wool liner?

If you aren’t looking to reuse your wool packaging, simply remove the plastic outer layer – this can be put in with your standard plastic recycling. Then just put the wool liner into a compost bin (if available) or dig it into the soil in the garden. The sheep’s wool will release valuable nitrates back into the soil as it breaks down. Some local authorities will accept the wool in household garden waste bins – it’s just a matter of checking with the local council to find out which recycling facilities are available in your area. If you end up having to pop the wool into the general waste bin, don’t panic – it will break down in landfill.

Can I pause my subscription if I go on holiday?
Yes. Our flexible subscriptions can be changed, paused or cancelled whenever you like!

Can I pick a specific delivery time slot?

Not yet, but we’re working on it! At the moment, you can pick your preferred delivery day – and we’ll let you know the specific time slot you’ve been allotted that morning.
