Meet the Founder: Feragaia's Jamie Wild

Feragaia (0.0% ABV) is a Free Spirit crafted in Scotland's first alcohol-free distillery. Established in 2019, Feragaia's mission is to revolutionise No & Lo drinking and bring confidence to drinkers.

Milly and Feragaia's co-founder, Jamie had a great catch-up last year about all things food and realised their brands have a lot in common. Much like ByRuby, Feragaia focuses on best sourced ingredients to create a delicious product that makes staying in and cooking at home feel like an occasion.

We thought our new 'Meet the Founder' series would be the perfect opportunity to chat a bit more about Jamie, Feragaia and his favourite recipes!

What inspired you to start Feragaia?

I wanted to create more confidence for drinkers in alcohol free.

As people are becoming increasingly conscious of alcohol consumption, the No/Lo options are expanding in hospitality and supermarkets alike. What sets you aside from the rest of the No/Lo spirits category?

Scotland’s DNA for time honoured craft distillation runs within Feragaia. We’re a real distillery made free spirit and transparency is rare in the No & Low Spirit category. We’re here to set the benchmark for quality in the category and we believe drinkers deserve that. Feragaia is 0.0% ABV and Zero Sugar, it has a unique taste and in my biased opinion is a elevated alcohol-free drinking experience.

If you could give any advice to someone looking to start a business, what would it be?

Follow what inspires you, believe in yourself and prepare for a long slog!

We love the cocktail recipes on your site and have had the pleasure of tasting one of the delicious Feragaia cocktails, but we are intrigued to know - what is your favourite way to drink Feragaia?

If I’m making the Feragaia drink I'd go with a riff off a Paloma - squeeze of citrus, pinch of salt, ice and top with tonic. Quick, complex, refreshing and hits the spot – good all year round. If I’m out and in on our incredible stockists, then cocktails with lapsang-souchong or apple are irresistible to me.

Whilst enjoying your drink of choice, is there a meal you love to cook at home? Can you share the recipe?

Halloumi, sweet potato and chickpea curry. Spices (turmeric, curry powder, chilli flakes), garlic, onion, chopped tomato, coconut milk, , boil and fry the halloumi for softness and pour in the chickpeas and their water separately cook the sweet potatoes in spices in the oven and fold into curry at the end. Serve with garlic naan, mango chutney and garnish with some ripped coriander.

Here at ByRuby, we love to share tips on the many ways you can make the most of your freezer. What are the top 3 things you always have in your freezer?

Rye bread, By Ruby Chicken Pie, filled ice trays.
